ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would conduct proceedings of the disqualification reference filed against the Prime Minister’s son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar on Tuesday.
The proceedings would be heard by a five-member bench presided over by the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sardar Muhammad Raza. The reference was filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) representative Nawabzada Salahuddin against Captain Safdar for concealing his wife Maryam Nawaz’s assets.
The reference file stated that Captain Safdar deliberately concealed his wife’s assets abroad. The ECP had sought a written reply from the defendant during the last hearing of the reference. A similar disqualification reference had also been filed against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAKT) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Pakistan Muslim league-N (PML-N) also responded in kind when it filed a reference for the disqualification of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and senior party leader Jahangir Tareen. Imran had termed the reference filed against him as ‘blackmailing’ from PMLN.
