Dwellers of the Rice Canal staged a sit-in near Dodai Rice Canal Top, which was also participated by GDA MPA Moazim Ali Abbasi, JUI-F’s Provincial General Secretary Maulana Rashid Mahmood Soomro, Jeay Sindh Mahaz Chairman Riaz Chandio and members of civil society.
While addressing the participants these leaders said that when Bengalis, Burmese and Biharis were given houses in Karachi then why the poverty-stricken people of Larkana & Sukkur were not being given homes. They said when Sukkur’s Bundar wall was demolished the residents were compensated. They said that dogs are more beloved to the children of Asif Ali Zardari’s than innocent children of Larkana who are dying for dog bites. They alleged that this is the reason that campaign to kill stray dogs has been stopped in Sindh. They said houses will not be allowed to be demolished till alternate is not provided to the dwellers of rice canal, Ghar Wah and Abri Wah.
On the other hand, local PPP office bearer Aijaz Laghari held talks with the irrigation, police and anti-encroachment department officials and sent them back. He said PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has taken notice of the issue and has directed not to allow demolition of Larkana residents.
On the other hand, PPP Sindh president & adviser to the Chief minister for Universities and Boards Nisar Khuhro has said in a statement issued by his spokesperson Shakeel Memon that demolition of houses will not be allowed and dwellers will not be rendered homeless. He said removal of encroachment on rice canal has been ordered by the court and review petition will soon be filed. He said no injustices will be allowed with the citizens.
